Stephen Keshi’s future as Nigeria coach, super eagles

Monday 15 September 2014 0 comments

Stephen Keshi’s future as Nigeria
coach hangs in the balance with a
decision on whether he stays on
only likely to come in the days
before the team’s next crunch
game.
The 52-year-old has agreed to
renew his contract and even
handled the Super Eagles’ first two
matches in the competition
without a new deal after the
intervention of Nigeria’s sports
minister.
But talks with the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) ran cold because
of the leadership wrangles at the
association that prompted a league
boycott and saw Fifa threaten a
ban from international
competition.

“It is up to the NFF to decide who
handles the Eagles,” said Patrick
Omorodion, spokesman for sports
minister Tammy Danagogo.
“The minister only requested that
Keshi should handle the two
games, since there was a vacuum.”
Fifa’s decision not to ban Nigeria
was conditional on new elections
being held for the NFF
management within the shortest
possible timeframe.
A vote has been set for September
30 — 10 days before Nigeria, with
only one point from two games,
take on Sudan in a must-win
Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
But whether Keshi stays in charge
is not a given, raising the prospect
of another troubled build-up. “It is
only fair that the new NFF
leadership be saddled with the
responsibility of deciding the fate
of Keshi,” said one senior official,
who asked not to be identified.

Willy Paul offers public apology for alleging that a radio presenter Adella is a lesbian

Tuesday 9 September 2014 0 comments

Scandals and gossip are daily
occurrences for most celebrities who
will do anything to stay relevant.
However, it gets worse when one
celebrity lashes out at the other on
social media, where every member of
the public can watch the drama.
Well, most recently, gospel hit maker
Willy Paul stirred Adelle, a local
radio presenter the wrong way when
he alleged that she was “a lesbian”.
As the story goes, Willy Paul was in
Adelle’s show and the two were
having a rather captivating session
when fans started asking whether
the two had chemistry, or whether
they had considered dating.
Calmly, Adelle turned the offer
down, but this was later followed by
the allegations by Willy saying that
she was not straight.
An agitated Adelle took to social
media to rant and set the record
straight also adding that Willy
should have been more careful with
his words.
After their argument went on to
trend for a whole day with fans even
taking part in the drama, Willy Paul
came out to apologise saying that “It
was all just a game.”

Restaurant gains popularity after Uhuru’s lunch visit - Barka Restaurant

Tucked away at the entrance of
the Old Town – one of the oldest
towns in Mombasa’s history –
Barka Restaurant is popularly
known for its Swahili and Arabic
traditional dishes that attract both
locals and foreigners.
It was here that President Uhuru
Kenyatta decided to pay a surprise
visit and enjoy his lunch on
Saturday afternoon August 30,
2014.
Since then, it has become a bee
hive of activity.
President Kenyatta together with a
few MPs from the coast stopped
over at the restaurant while he
was in Mombasa last week, to the
surprise of many who were
present at the eating point.
“I was at the cashier going on with
our normal business when all of
sudden I saw the President
walking in and greeting everyone,”
Said Ms Saada Hamid the manager
of the restaurant.
FRIENDLY
She added, “At first I was
paralysed with shock, but I
managed to overcome it and I was
further surprised at how friendly
the President is.
“He talked to everyone as if they
were his equals. After the
greetings he went straight to the
VIP lounge.”
At first his order was only for
snacks but later sampled more of
the meals that were available –
with his security detail not being
left behind in the sampling.
“After the meal he stayed for a
while. We took some pictures with
him and his people paid the bill,”
Ms Hamid said.
Although Barka Restaurant was
opened four years ago the VIP
lounge was opened in December
2014 and has a sitting capacity of
30 to 50 people.
“Since the opening of the VIP
lounge we have had several
distinguished guests – but none of
them have been of his stature,” Ms
Hamid said.
A few days after the President’s
visit, the restaurant has witnessed
an increase in sales and in the
number of customers visiting it.
“The President’s visit also shows
how humble he is,” said Ms
Hamid.

ksh.18billion thrown in the arm just "for health purposes"

Tuesday 12 August 2014 0 comments

Its reported that Danish Government has
committed Sh18 billion to support
various projects in Kenya, with
focus on improving health in 47
counties.
Speaking at a business network
forum in Nairobi on Monday, the
country’s Trade and Development
minister Mogens Jensen said the
amount will be disbursed over a
four-year period.
The governments of Kenya and
Denmark are currently in talks on
how best to direct the funds to the
devolved units. They are also
working on widening the scope of
the project to include green energy
and regional security apart from
devolution.
“Implementation of the project will
kick off next year through the
corporation policy programme
between Kenya and Denmark,” Mr
Jensen said.
Over the last 10 years, Kenya has
received support from the country
through the Danish International
Development Agency with over Sh7
billion going to health.
Danish Ambassador to Kenya Geert
Andersen last month said health is
a priority to them noting that they
will support Kenya to achieve its
goal in the sector.
He said through the third phase of
the Danish funded health sector
support programme, the country
will aggressively fund the sector in
Kenya this year.

Kenyan Governors and MCA's accused of sidelining their office deputies

A deputy governor has launched
an attack on governors over the
running of county governments.
Nyandarua Deputy Governor
Waithaka Mwangi Kirika said his
counterparts had been sidelined in
most county affairs.
“Our role is purely bridal. Some of
us have no job descriptions despite
being the second in command at
the county,” Mr Mwangi said
Monday.
He said a majority of the deputy
governors were chosen as running
mates for political expediency
during the 2013 General Elections.
He said they were totally in the
dark in regard to the affairs of
county governments.
“We have become mere stooges.
We can’t even tell when the
governor is away and we are not
involved in consultations in case an
issue arises,” Mr Kirika added.
He said many governors were
suffering from the ‘‘big man’’
syndrome.
“When we go out of our way to do
other politically-related duties, we
are accused of undermining the
governors,” Mr Kirika said.
COUNTY CEOS
The Fourth Schedule of the
Constitution and the County
Governments Act 2012 say
governors and their deputies are
the CEOs and deputy CEOs of
counties respectively.
Mr Kirika said the Act was not
being followed and there were icy
relationships between governors
and their assistants in many
counties.
“I was recently admonished for
offering advice which is my role as
the second-in-command. My
contribution was seen as
offensive,” he said.
Mr Kirika supported the county
development boards to be chaired
by senators saying they would
bring sanity in the management of
counties.
He said the boards would bring
together local political leadership,
ensure inclusivity as well as
transparency and financial
prudence.
Mr Kirika said he was opposed to
calls for referendum by the
governors, terming the clamour
self serving.
