The Manchester United player
is now facing jail time
The footballer made 19
appearances for United but could
now be facing a return to jail after
he admitted stealing a car.
Former Manchester United footballer
Ronnie Wallwork could be facing a
return to prison after he pleaded
guilty to stealing a car.
The 36-year-old star admitted taking
an Audi A4 which belonged to car
finance company Money Barn PLC on
September 21, 2010.
He appeared at Minshull Street
Crown Court in Manchester where
Nicholas Flanagan, defending
Wallwork, described the case as
unusual.
He told the court that Wallwork had
pleaded guilty on a basis and said
that the Audi A4, registration
number DA08 BAW, had been
‘lawfully leased and paid for by
Wallwork’ but between September
21, 2010 and January 2011 he
‘dishonestly took it from the
leaseholders’.
Wallwork had made repayments of
around £22,000 on the car, but
when the contract came into dispute
the police were alerted, the court
heard.
Judge Andrew Lowcock warned
Wallwork, who made 19 appearances
for Manchester United and also won
four caps for England under-20s,
that he could be facing time behind
bars.
Releasing Wallwork on bail ahead of
a sentencing hearing next month he
said: “You should not read anything
into the fact that I am granting you
bail. All options, including custody,
will be considered.”
No further details about the case
were revealed in court by prosector
Barrie Darby.
Wallwork, from Failsworth, near
Oldham, stood in the dock wearing a
suit and tie.
He spoke only to confirm his name
and personal details.
The case was adjourned for the
probation service to draw up a pre-
sentence report.
He was released on unconditional
bail and will return to the same
court for sentence on July 3.
