We are coming, UN says about Al-shabaab to Nairobi Kenya Residents

Nairobi has warned of a looming
terror attack in Nairobi which will
target specifically overcrowded
places, malls and places renowned
to be frequented by foreigners
warning its staff to keep off those
places for their safety.
The UN Intel office specifically
pointed Yaya Centre, Junction Mall
and Hurlingham in Nairobi as the
major targets.
This warning has come when Kenya
witnessed the second most deadly
attack (since Westgate) in
Mpeketoni, Lamu County which left
more than 60 people dead and
hundreds displaced.
Earlier, Al-Shabaab had warned
tourists planning to visit Kenya to
cancel their visits or risk putting
their lives in jeopardy of terror
attack. They urged the government
to remove their troops in Somalia
as long as they want to enjoy
peace.
Earlier, the President dismissed
claims by Al-Shabaab that they are
responsible for the attack terming
the attacks as well orchestrated
and planned by politicians for
their egocentric gains, a statement
that was dismissed by CORD
leader, Raila Odinga.

Al-Shabaab,"It was us at Mpeketoni attacks"

Somalia's Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab rebels on Monday said
they carried out an attack on a
town on Kenya's coast that left over 50 dead.
A statement from the group said
the attack in Mpeketoni, near
Lamu was revenge for the "Kenyan
government's brutal oppression of
Muslims in Kenya through
coercion, intimidation and
extrajudicial killings of Muslim
scholars."
It also condemned the "Kenyan
military's continued invasion and
occupation of our Muslim lands
and the massacre of innocent
Muslims in Somalia."
"To the tourists visiting Kenya we
say this: Kenya is now officially a
war zone and as such any tourists
visiting the country do so at their
own peril," the group said.
"Foreigners with any regard for
their safety and security should
stay away from Kenya or suffer
the bitter consequences of their
folly. You have been forewarned!"
it added.
Around 50 heavily-armed gunmen
drove into Mpeketoni, near Lamu,
late on Sunday.
Witnesses said they first attacked
a police station, before starting to
randomly shoot at civilians, some
of whom had been watching the
World Cup in local bars and hotels.
The Al-Shabaab statement vowed
more attacks would follow.
"We hereby warn the Kenyan
government and its public that as
long as you continue to invade our
lands and oppress innocent
Muslims, such attacks will continue
and the prospect of peace and
stability in Kenya will be but a
distant mirage. Do not ever dream
of living peacefully in your lands
while your forces kill the innocent
in our lands," it said.
Kenyan troops crossed into
southern Somalia in 2011 to fight
Al-Shabaab, later joining the now
22,000-strong African Union force
battling the militants.

Raila Odinga: I don’t fear arrest over Cord rallies

The Coalition for Reforms and
Democracy leader Raila Odinga has
said he will continue with
countrywide rallies without fear of
being arrested.
While attending a church service
at Neno Evangelism Church in
Mombasa Sunday, the Former
Prime Minister said he was
representing the voices of Kenyans
and that he would not be
intimidated by the arrest calls.
“I have been arrested many times
in this country, arresting me is not
an issue, Ole Lenku you have been
appointed to do your work, just do
it and don’t politicise issues,” Mr
Odinga said.
Quoting from the book of Isaiah 1,
verse 18, the Cord leader defended
his calls for national dialogue to
address problems facing the
country.
“Come now, and let us reason
together,” Says the Lord, though
your sins are like scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow; though
they are red like crimson, they
shall be as wool.
He told the congregation: “The
sovereignty of Kenya lies on the
people of Kenya, They can exercise
it directly or they can delegate it
to other institutions. We are not
coming to dialogue with you
(government) for our gain but for
the benefit of Kenyans.”
At the same time, Bungoma County
Senator Moses Wetang'ula said the
'Baba Battalion' went to the port
city listen to the residents and the
issues they would like to be
addressed during the national
dialogue.
Senator Wetang'ula said they were
ready to be apprehended in their
quest for justice and well-being of
Kenyans.
He said Cord’s dream is to liberate
Kenyans from corruption,
unemployment, high costs of living,
poverty and increased insecurity
among other ills.
“A dream can be frustrated, it can
be delayed, but can never be killed
or defeated. We want a Kenya
where everyone has a right to be
proud to be a Kenyan. As Cord, we
want equal opportunity for all
regardless of your tribe, ethnicity,
colour, religion or race,” he said.
Neno Evangelism Mombasa Centre-
Bishop Robert Wafula called on the
leaders both in opposition and
government to work together to
ensure the security and safety of
all Kenyans.
He said the rising incidences of
insecurity are worrying especially
in Mombasa County.

Muthama, Siaya Senator James

Umenifika kwenye koo!! Lenku tell Raila Odinga

“You have now crossed the line and
you must back off or else . . .,” that
is the terse warning to CORD leader
Raila Odinga from Interior Cabinet
Secretary Joseph ole Lenku.
Speaking to The Standard on Sunday
in his office yesterday, Mr Lenku said
the ongoing CORD rallies must be
conducted within the law, and
added that, “Raila would be held
personally responsible for any
bloodshed, loss of life or property
arising from his political activities”.
Asked what line the former Prime
Minister had crossed in relation to
political mobilisation, Mr Lenku said
Raila has “absolutely zero standing
in law to call for a national holiday”
and that “his talk about revolution is
aimed at sowing the seeds for
anarchy in this country. It is
treason.”
Addressing the first of a series of
planned CORD rallies in Migori on
Friday, the former Prime Minister
called on Kenyans not to report to
work on July 7 but to turn out in
large numbers to push the
government into a national dialogue
over insecurity, high cost of living,
unemployment among the youth and
disbandment of the electoral body.

Breach of peace:
Separately, Inspector General of
Police David Kimaiyo warned that
organisers of political rallies would
take individual responsibility for the
security of the people who attend.

“In case of any lawlessness during
the rallies, the organisers and the
leaders will individually be held
responsible for such kinds of breach
of peace,” said the IG yesterday in a
statement read on his behalf by
police spokesperson Gatiria Mboroki.
The Interior CS said there were
clear constitutional avenues in
Parliament, the Judiciary and the
Executive through which people
exercise power and sovereignty.
“Any other framework of engagement
outside this order is treasonable,”
said Mr Lenku.
The supreme law is very clear that
“any attempt to establish a
government otherwise than in
compliance with this Constitution is
unlawful,” he said. Quoting Article 3
of the Constitution, the CS said
Raila and the entire CORD
leadership individually and
collectively have an obligation to
respect, uphold and defend the
Constitution.
He said the Executive would not give
free space to CORD to overthrow a
legitimately elected government
through the machinations of selfish
leaders whom he accused of being
bankrolled by foreigners.
“Kenyans went to the polls and gave
the mandate of leadership to
Jubilee. Raila contested the election
of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the
highest court in the land and the
court declared that Uhuru had won
the election fair and square. What is
democracy for CORD if they can’t
respect the ruling of the Supreme
Court?
