proceedings in Nairobi on May 28,
2014. Kericho Governor Paul
Chepkwony has appealed to local
residents to pray for him as a
special Senate committee prepares to release a probe report on him on June 3, 2014.

Speaking at the Kericho Green
Stadium during celebrations to
mark Madaraka Day, Prof
Chepkwony was confident that he
would be given a second chance to
serve the people of Kericho.
“I believe the senators would look
into the allegations fairly and
determine whether indeed they
hold water. I want to thank the
people of Kericho for remaining
calm throughout the process,” he
said.
Prof Chepkwony said he had
resisted the urge to go to court
because he believed the senator
would conduct fair investigations.
The governor said he had no ill
feelings against Members of the
County Assembly (MCAs) who
impeached him, adding that if
cleared, he would continue
working with all of them to
achieve their development
programmes as outlined in the
County Integrated Development
Plan.
EXPENSIVE AFFAIR
“I believe in forgiveness and unity
of purpose. I have been in talks
with the MCAs and we have
agreed to bury the hatchet and
work together,” he added.
Prof Chepkwony said impeachment
was a “very expensive affair” and
cautioned other counties to first
exhaust alternative means of
dealing with administrative
problems instead of resorting to it.
“Impeachment pulls back a county
because it scares away investors.
It takes a long time to catch up
with others,” he said.
He lauded Deputy Governor Susan
Kikwai and the county executives
for running the county in his
absence.
Prof Chepkwony was backed by
two MCAs, Minority Leader
Livingstone Kipkoech and
nominated ward representative
Mary Chelangat, who attended the
celebration.
