Kisumu County: School girl missing in kisumu

Monday, 2 June 2014

A family in Kisumu County is
distraught following the
disappearance of their daughter on
her way to school nine days ago.
A Kapkenda Girls Secondary School
student heading back to school.
More girls than boys who enrol in
primary schools in Keiyo South sit
for national examinations. A family
from Awasi in Kisumu County is
searching for their 16-year-old
daughter who disappeared on her
way back to Kapkenda Girls
Secondary School in Uasin Gishu
County.
Mr Moses Nyandika has searched
in vain for his daughter Agnes, 16,
since May 24, when he saw her off
to school in Kisumu town after she
had received her medication.
He told Shine Kenya on Monday that
his daughter was returning to
Kapkenda Girls Secondary School
in Uasin Gishu County after a two-
week sick leave spent at their
home in Awasi, Kisumu County.
“I assumed she had gone back to
school safely. I was, however,
taken aback when the school’s
deputy principal called on Friday
last week, about a week later, to
enquire about the girl’s progress,”
Mr Nyandika said.
A police officer who is aware of
the matter told shine kenya that an
alert had already been sent to
police stations across the country
as the search for her gathers pace.

HEALTH PROBLEMS

She said Mr Nyandika reported the
matter at the Eldoret Police Station
on Saturday and that investigations
had commenced.
The officer said there was a
possibility that Agnes may have
alighted from the matatu before
reaching Eldoret due to sickness or
for some other unknown reason.
Mr Nyandika said Monday the
family was assisting the police as
they pursued all leads in a bid to
trace his third-born child.
He explained that his daughter had
been having health problems
arising from the chilly conditions
in the school’s location.
“Whenever the cold conditions
overwhelm her, she develops
congestion in the chest and
sometimes loses consciousness. She usually remedies the condition
using inhalers,” he said.
He added that Agnes was
passionate about her classwork
and had never showed signs of
wanting to skip school.
“She always had a passion to be in
school and missing school even for
a day disturbs her,” he wrote in a
post in his Facebook post
