Police officers raided villages along
the Turkana-Pokot border in a bid
to recover five guns.
Police officers Tuesday launched an
operation in villages along the
Turkana-Pokot border in a bid to
recover five guns stolen from six
policemen killed during a raid a
week ago.
West Pokot county commissioner
Peter Okwanyo confirmed that a
contingent of Rapid Deployment,
Rural Border Patrol and Anti- Stock
Theft Units are in Masol and
Lomut town centres in Pokot
Central Sub County and nearby
villages after conducting a similar
operation in Molen area.
“The exercise involves all relevant
security personnel including area
local administrators who
understand the region with
guidance of reliable tip offs from
residents,” said Mr Okwanyo.
The administrator said the
deadline to voluntarily surrender
the guns was Wednesday and only
a HK11 submachine gun belonging
to the slain officers has been
recovered.
Mr Okwanyo said they opted for
alternative means to recover the
guns and warned stern action will
be taken against those who will be
found with them.
The mop-up comes days after over
200 raiders stole animals at
Kalimorock in Turkana South
leaving six people, including four
administration police officers, dead
and stole their guns.
