"No more thefts of smartphones"Android and Windows create a new feature in Smartphones.

Tuesday, 24 June 2014 0 comments

Google and Microsoft are adding a “kill-switch” feature to their
Android and Windows phone
operating systems.
The feature is a method of making a
handset completely useless if it is
stolen, rendering a theft pointless.
Authorities have been urging tech
firms to take steps to help curb
phone theft and argued that a kill-
switch feature can help resolve the
problem.
Apple and Samsung, two of the
biggest phone makers, offer a similar
feature on some of their devices. The
move by Google and Microsoft means
that kill switches will now be a part
of the three most popular phone
operating systems in the world.
Smartphone theft has become a big
problem across the world. According
to a report by US authorities: some
3.1 million mobile devices were
stolen in the US in 2013, nearly
double the number of devices stolen
in 2012; one in three Europeans
experienced the theft or loss of a
mobile device in 2013; in South
Korea, mobile device theft increased
five-fold between 2009 and 2012;
and in Colombia, criminals stole over
one million devices in 2013.

A “hard” kill switch would render a
stolen device permanently unusable
and is favoured by legislators who
want to give stolen devices the
“value of a paperweight”. A “soft”
kill switch only make a phone
unusable to “an unauthorised user”.
Some argue that the only way to
permanently disable a phone is to
physically damage it.

RIGHT DIRECTION
Experts worry that hackers could find
a way to hijack a kill signal and turn
off phones, and if a phone is turned
off or put into aeroplane mode, it
might not receive the kill signal at
all.
Further, authorities claim that
Apple’s feature — dubbed Activation
Lock, which it introduced on all
iPhones running the iOS 7 operating
system in September last year — has
helped reduce theft substantially.
According to a report by the New
York State Attorney General, in the
first five months of 2014 the theft of
Apple devices fell by 17 per cent in
New York City. Meanwhile, iPhone
robberies fell 24 per cent in London
and 38 per cent in San Francisco in
the six months after Apple
introduced the feature, compared to
the previous six months.
“During the same period, thefts of
other popular mobile devices
increased,” the report says.
Mr Manoj Menon, managing director
of consulting firm Frost & Sullivan,
said the move was a step in the
right direction.
“[It] will go a long way in helping
authorities come one step closer to
realising a vision of zero theft of
mobile phones,” he said.

Bill gates meets a Kikuyu from Kenya!! Amazing

Monday, 23 June 2014 0 comments

Bill Gates organized an enormous
session to recruit a new Chairman
for Microsoft Europe.

5000 candidates assembled in a
large room. One candidate was
Njoroge a Kenyan living in USA.

Bill Gates thanked all the
candidates for coming and asking
those who do not know JAVA
programming to leave, 2000 people
left. Njoroge said to himself, “I do
not know JAVA, but I have nothing
to lose if I stay. I’ll give it a try’”.

Bill Gates asked the candidates
who never had experience of
managing more than 100 people to
leave, 2000 people left and Njoroge
said to himself “I never managed
anybody by myself, but I have
nothing to lose if I stay. What can
happen to me?” So he stayed
behind again.

Then Bill Gates asked candidates
who didn’t have a minimum of a
Diploma in Business Management
to leave. 500 people left the room.
Njoroge said to himself, “I left
school at 15, grade 7, but what
have I got to lose?” So, he stayed
in the room.

Lastly, Bill Gates asked the
candidates who do not speak Serb-
Croat to leave. 498 people left the
room. Njoroge says to himself, “I do
not speak one word of Serb-Croat
but what do I have to lose?” So he
stayed and finds himself with one
other candidate.

EVERYONE ELSE HAS GONE.
Bill Gates joined them and said,

“Apparently you are the only two
candidates who have all the
required qualifications &
experience I am looking for and
speak Serb-Croat, so I’d now like to
hear you have a conversation
together in that language.
And……..”
Calmly, Njoroge turned to the
other candidate and in a horse
voice said “We mwega mundu wa
nyumba?”
The other candidate answered
softly but clearly saying “Gutiri na
oru, no gwethera ciana mutu.”

Samsung Galaxy 5, Flagship Done- Sales Have Gone Worldwide

Thursday, 5 June 2014 0 comments

The latest version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy smartphone series went on sale worldwide Friday, days after the electronics giant announced it was facing a second consecutive quarter of profit decline.
The Galaxy S5 has a lot riding on it to steer the South Korean firm’s profit-making machine back on track as growth in smartphone sales slows, with mature markets like North America and Europe near saturation.
Reviews of the S5 have mostly concluded that it is one of the best high-end smartphones on the market, but there is also a general consensus that it lacks the “wow” factor to differentiate it from its predecessors and competitors
“It can swim, but it won’t make any waves,” was the verdict of the Wall Street Journal, referring to one innovation in the S5′s waterproof covering.
Galaxy s5
Samsung’s mobile unit has been the driving force behind the record profits of recent years, and it needs the S5 to perform well as a retort to the doom-mongers who say the company lacks a clear strategy to flourish in an increasingly competitive, saturated market.
Samsung made more than 30 percent of all smartphones sold in the world last year, nearly twice the share of its arch-rival Apple. But on Tuesday, the company estimated its first quarter operating profit at 8.4 trillion won ($7.96 billion), marking a second straight year-on-year decline.
In a sign of the challenge the company faces, the S5 was priced lower at its commercial launch Friday than the previous S4 model.
Research firm IDC estimated the average selling price of smartphones will fall to $265 globally by 2017 from $337 in 2013 and $387 in 2012.

Google’s new car: No steering wheel, no brake pads, no gas pedals

Google hopes to have 100 prototypes of its car on the streets by early next year.

LOS ANGELES—Google will build a car without a steering wheel.
It doesn’t need one because it drives itself.
The two-seater won’t be sold publicly, but Google said Tuesday it hopes by this time next year, 100 prototypes will be on public roads. They won’t be driving fast, though — the top speed would be 40 km/h.
The cars are a natural next step for Google, which already has driven hundreds of thousands of miles in California with Lexus SUVs and Toyota Priuses outfitted with a combination of sensors and computers.
Those cars have Google-employed “safety drivers” behind the wheel in case of emergency. The new cars would eliminate the driver from the task of driving.
No steering wheel, no brake and gas pedals. Instead, buttons for go and stop.

“It reminded me of catching a chairlift by yourself, a bit of solitude I found really enjoyable,” Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, told a Southern California tech conference Tuesday evening of his first ride, according to a transcript. The electric-powered car is compact and bubble-shaped — something that might move people around a corporate campus or congested downtown.
Google is unlikely to go deeply into auto manufacturing. In unveiling the prototype, the company emphasized partnering with other firms.
The biggest obstacle could be the law.
Test versions will have a wheel and pedals, because they must under California regulations.
Google hopes to build the 100 prototypes late this year or early next and use them in a to-be-determined “pilot program,” spokeswoman Courtney Hohne said. Meanwhile, by the end of this year, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) must write regulations for the “operational” use of truly driverless cars.
The DMV had thought that reality was several years away, so it would have time to perfect the rules.
That clock just sped up, said the head of the DMV’s driverless car program, Bernard Soriano.
“Because of what is potentially out there soon, we need to make sure that the regulations are in place that would keep the public safe but would not impede progress,” Soriano said.
